Movie score (let alone original score) is always a confusing one to play along with for me. Oftentimes the nominated films have good music but it is always the kind that when days pass, I forget about them. Is it just one specific long score that gets recognized kinda like how visual effects or makeup sometimes just focus on one major visual effect or makeup sometimes? Or is it the whole thing?

Anyway… that’s not even the point of this thread. I wanted to see everybody’s memorable musical scores from non musicals. These are mine. Idek which ones here got nominated…

    Mission: Impossible

    Mortal Kombat

    Saw

    Atonement

    Pirates of the Caribbean

    Harry Potter

I remember that whistling mockingjay thing from Hunger Games. Is that part of the score?

As you can see, with all except for Atonement, they’re franchises so it’s the fact that the score played in many more movies that probably factored in me remembering them. Idk. I’m trying to understand this category more.

    What’s your memorable music scores?

ETA: Bobby from 2005 or 2006. If that counts.

    Some personal faves:

    BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (Waxman)
THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR (Herrmann)
    SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS (Bernstein)
    JULIET OF THE SPIRITS (Rota)
    TWO ENGLISH GIRLS (Delerue)
    UNDER FIRE (Goldsmith)
    CANDYMAN (Glass)
    THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES (Santaolalla)
    UNDER THE SKIN (Levi)

Of these, only one got nominated, but I’d hold them up against the film that won that year easily.

Among the OP’s list, ATONEMENT won the Oscar and the first and third (aka best) Harry Potter films earned John Williams nominations as well.

I rewatched Terms of Endearment recently and remembered how great that score was! My favourites include Love Story, Summer of 42, Ryan’s Daughter & The Way We Were.

Oh my goodness. I can’t believe I forgot to include The Dark Knight and Inception. Hans Zimmer is the first movie score composer that I know with ease.

I just love movies. And awards.
