Hey. I was just thinking of McAvoy and his role in Split. I thought he was splendid. That got me wondering if anybody actually got an Oscar for playing multiple characters?
<p style=”text-align: right;”>I remember Cage got nominated for playing twins in Adaptation… and that’s pretty much all I can remember right now.</p>

I just love movies. And awards.

Joanne Woodward in The Three Faces of Eve (1957) probably qualifies – also one of the most beloved wins in Best Actress (have never read anything negative about her performance and win).

Woodward was playing the same person but with multiple personalities, right? Not different characters. Neither was McAvoy in Split.

It’s like Julie Andrews playing Victor and Victoria, but they’re the same person, like Gwyneth Paltrow in Shakespeare in Love.

To me, this means Meryl Streep suddenly showing up as a Rabbi in Angels in America. Or Eddie Murphy in Nutty Proffesor.

Cage played twins, these two different people (tecnically) even end up as actual nominees at the real Oscars. Peter Sellers was actually playing multiple characters.

Well, it was a disgrace Jeremy Irons wasn’t nominated for playing the creepy gynecologist brothers in Dead Ringers!

Eddie Murphy was more deserving of a nomination for The Nutty Professor than his performance in Dreamgirls.

Lee Marvin is the only person to win for playing multiple roles–portraying both Kid Shelleen and Tim Strawn in CAT BALLOU.

The person who was nominated for playing the most roles is…Gary Sinise in FORREST GUMP. Don’t believe me? Just check out this clip:

It’s no accident that when he won the Oscar for REVERSAL OF FORTUNE, he thanked David Cronenberg in his speech!

Eddie Murphy is the King of playing multiple characters in one film. He was horribly snubbed for The Nutty Professor and Bowfinger
